Both are types of curtains for blocking dust. 錦障 (brocade screens), 畫障 (painted screens) both have this meaning. Commonly written as 幛. | Structures built for protection and defense are often called 障. As in embankments are called 堤障. Fortifications are called 保障. For border defense, earth walls were built to limit enemy cavalry, and pavilions were built for observation, called 亭障. Also written as 鄣.
