    An official building. All government offices are called 寺. See (Book of Han commentary). In the old system, government bureaus included 太常寺, 鴻臚寺. This is the origin. | 寺人: A minor official who gives commands. Later called eunuchs or 內監. | Where monks gather is called 寺. In Emperor Ming of Han's time, Shemoteng came from the Western Regions with scriptures on a white horse, first staying at the 鴻臚寺. Thus taking the name 寺, the White Horse Temple was established. Thereafter, all Buddhist dwellings were called 寺.
