A flower name. Anciently written as 鞠 (chrysanthemum). Stem is slightly woody. Leaves have notches. Blooms in late autumn. Varieties are extremely numerous. Li Shizhen said there are nine hundred varieties. Tao Hongjing distinguished two types. Those with purple stems, fragrant aroma, and sweet taste are true chrysanthemums. Those with green stems that smell like mugwort, taste bitter and are inedible are called 苦薏. That is wild chrysanthemum.
