    XSZD Xuéshēng Zìdiǎn (學生字典) - Student's Dictionary

    An ancient official in charge of documents. Astronomy and divination also fell under this. There were 內史, 外史, 左史, 右史 and other titles. In Qin and Han times, it was a position close to the emperor, called 御史. Those in charge of palace archives and compiling history were called 太史. Later, 御史 specialized in censorship and remonstrance, with their office called 都察院. The duties of 太史 were combined with 翰林院, hence Hanlin scholars were called 太史.
