    A name for a regional administrative division. There have been many changes through dynasties. One system had commanderies under counties: Zhou system had the Son of Heaven's territory of one thousand li divided into a hundred counties, each county having four commanderies. Another system had counties under commanderies: Qin unified the empire and established 36 commanderies to govern the counties. After Han, this was continued. In Ming and Qing, prefectures were also called 郡. This is the case.
