    鴛鴦 (mandarin duck). A water bird name. Shaped like a duck but smaller. Males have fairly long white feathers on the neck. Wings are large and beautiful. Females have no white feathers on the head. Wings are not beautiful either. Live in lakes. Males are called 鴛. Females are called 鴦. Often stay together as pairs. Hence ancient people used them as a metaphor for harmonious husband and wife.
