A side door beside the main gate. 閨閣 (inner chambers) was originally written as 閤. Also interchangeable with 臺閣 (terrace pavilion). In Han, Gongsun Hong as Prime Minister built the Eastern Pavilion to invite worthy men. Later, the Eastern Pavilion became the place where the chief minister received wise scholars. This is the origin of the Ming Dynasty's Grand Secretary of the Eastern Pavilion. Therefore the old term 入閣 (enter the cabinet) was written as 閤.
