A plant name. Stems are slender and vine-like. Leaves are compound. Flowers are purple-red. Fruit forms pods. Root is purple outside and white inside. Used in medicine. Can also make kudzu powder. The fiber of the stem can be woven into kudzu cloth. In ancient times, summer cloth was mostly made from this. Therefore summer clothes are also called 葛. Since kudzu vines tangle together, affairs that are complicated and hard to sort out are called 糾葛 (entanglement), 瓜葛 (connection), 膠葛 (sticky entanglement).
