Ancient river name. A branch of the Yellow River. It branched off east from present-day Kaifeng, Henan, and joined the ancient Si River north of Xuzhou in Shandong. In the Yuan dynasty, the Yellow River took over the Bian's course to reach the Si and then the Huai. The original course of the Bian River was thus silted up. | Today Kaifeng is also called Bianliang. Hence Kaifeng is called 汴.
