Rows of dancers. When the number of rows and people are equal vertically and horizontally, it's called 佾. Such as the emperor's eight 佾: eight times eight equals sixty-four people. Feudal lords' six 佾: six times six equals thirty-six people. Under the old system, besides regular students in prefectural and county schools, there were 佾生, meaning those who danced in ceremonies honoring Confucius.
